Memoir.

It was finally the day. The day I've been waiting weeks for.  The track meet. 4 elementary schools were meeting at Apollo to determine who's the best of the best.  I was extremely nervous, but at the same time confident. My relay team was Kate Warner, Chistine Stephanie, and Remi Deyak, and I. We were selected to be the first heat of relays teams.

The weather was alright, it was about 56 degrees outside with a slight wind. Although the sun was shining, it was still cold. I went to Westwood elementary. We had a lot of fast runners, so we knew we would win some events. The boy relays were in progress, so we had to go wait in front of the bleachers. My heart was pounding, as we waited to take position.  The score takers told us it was time. I was the third runner, Remi Deyak was the anchor. I got into my lane, and waited. Waited for the gun to blow that puff of smoke, indicating the runners to start. I was looking at my parents up in the bleachers cheering.

The starting ref raised his left hand and said, "On your mark!" Raised his left hand with his finger on the trigger, "Get set!" BANG. Kate took off, sprinting hard. It was still a close match. She handed the red, dented, cold baton to the second runner, Christine.  I knew it was almost time. I took a deep breathe, shook my head, and got into my 3 point stand. Christine made eye contact with me as she ran up. I help my left hand out, and Christine yelled, "Stick! Stick!" So I took off. I felt her slap the baton in my hand, and ran as fast as I could. We had a huge lead, so I had a good feeling. I ran and ran and ran. The wind blowing on my face and hair. My legs strong and quick. My arms pumping with every step. I was breathing, and I was almost to Remi. I knew that if i messed up this hand off, we'd be disqualified.

I looked straight into Remi's eyes. I held out the baton straight ahead of me, and smacked it into her hand. She took off. Leaving me in the lane. I cheered and cheered. We won. We got first place. Victory. I felt so good. I screamed and jumped. and ran to the finish line to hug my team. The crowd roared and I was so proud of myself. That was an amazing acheivement.
